Cheesy Garlic Biscuits

I was a happy person when I discovered the recipe on the Bisquick box for the cheesy garlic biscuits. They are super easy and they don't take long to bake at all.. Well, recently I discovered that my mother-in-laws recipe for biscuits is really easy. Then I wondered if I could alter it to make Cheesy Garlic Biscuits from scratch instead of using Bisquick mix. I tried it out and it worked fabulously. Don't worry Bisquick Mix, there will always be a place for you in cupboards.

Cheesy Garlic Biscuits
  • 1 7/8 cups flour (1 3/4 cup + 2 tablespoons)
  • 2 t. sugar
  • 1/2 t. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 C. shortening
  • 4 t. baking powder
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1/2 t garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2/3 C. milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
Mix flour, sugar, cream of tartar, baking powder, salt and garlic powder. Cut in shortening until mixture becomes crumbly. Add cheddar cheese, milk, and egg. Drop large spoonfuls of dough onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 425F for 10 to 12 minutes. Mix butter and garlic powder in a microwave safe dish. Heat in microwave for 30 seconds, or until butter is melted. Brush melted butter over biscuits.
Tip: Substitute cheddar cheese with grated Parmesan cheese, makes an excellent side dish for Italian food.

I'm sorry, but I've turned word verification on again. I hate trying to decipher the words just as much as anyone, but I'm getting way too much spam. I tried doing comment moderation as people suggested but the number or spam comments I had to sift through was ridiculous. I appreciate your comments and didn't want them to get lost among the spam. Hopefully, I can reduce the amount of spam and turn the word verification off soon.
