Churro {Cinnamon} Buddies

Well, football season is back underway so I plan to have some great party/football snack food ideas coming up in the future. Today, I'm sharing a play on Muddy Buddies or Puppy Chow. Now this recipe uses Cinnamon Chips. I seriously didn't know that such a thing existed until I saw this recipe posted on Our Best Bites. I thought they were intriguing so I decided I needed to try that recipe. Unfortunately, I tried all of the local grocery store, but I couldn't find cinnamon chips anywhere. Sometime went buy and the Christmas baking season hit and cinnamon chips were well stocked in the grocery stores. I guess they are kind of a seasonal item in the little town I live, maybe you'll have better luck finding them where you live year round. Anyway, I still found the idea of the cinnamon chips interesting, so I bought a bag. This bag of cinnamon chips has been hiding in my freezer for several months. Since I didn't really know what cinnamon chips were I didn't really know how to use them. Well, thanks to Pinterest I finally found this recipe and used up those cinnamon chips. I'm going to be honest. I didn't really follow the recipe very closely at all. I followed the advice of some of the people who commented on the original recipe and increased some of the ingredients and I also made some changes of my own. The turned out to be pretty good and addicting, just like muddy buddies should be. My toddler would agree since he kept pushing a chair up to the counter to sneak a handful or two out of the bowl.

Churro Buddies
  • 9 Cups Chex (I used corn and I actually used the entire 14oz box)
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 10oz bag cinnamon chips
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) of butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter (I couldn't really taste it, I just added it for the creaminess. If allergies are an issue you could definitely leave it out)

Pour Chex into a large bowl. In a small bowl mix together powdered sugar, sugar, and cinnamon. Set aside. Melt together butter, cinnamon chips, and peanut butter in a double boiler (if you don't have a double boiler you can put a heat safe glass bowl over top a pot.) Working quickly, pour melted cinnamon chip mixture over Chex. Stir until evenly coated. Toss with cinnamon sugar mixture.

I'm sorry, but I've turned word verification on again. I hate trying to decipher the words just as much as anyone, but I'm getting way too much spam. I tried doing comment moderation as people suggested but the number or spam comments I had to sift through was ridiculous. I appreciate your comments and didn't want them to get lost among the spam. Hopefully, I can reduce the amount of spam and turn the word verification off soon.
