Crocheted Purses

It's been a while since I've posted a crochet pattern to share. I've been so busy crocheting Reindeer Hats for my Etsy Shop that I haven't really had time to work on anything for myself for fun. But now that Christmas is over the demand for Christmas themed hats is over as well and I've had a little more time so I've been able to finish up some projects I wanted to make for myself.

A few weeks ago I was browsing through pinterest and came across this pin. It was a very adorable crocheted purse. This was an idea that knew I could bring to life. So I looked through my yarn and found some leftover gray and got to work crocheting a nice lacy pattern. I did all of the crocheting work and added a fabric lining (pain in the rear). I love the way the little gray bag turned out, but being a mom and having to carry around a ton of stuff in my bag it wasn't quite big enough. I decided I would try again. The second time around I had a whole skein of yarn. I also didn't want to deal with a fabric lining so I decided to try a bag that was single crocheted so there wouldn't be holes for things to fall through and it wouldn't require the lining. I was afraid the solid single crochet wouldn't drape as well as the lacy pattern so I did do a little bit of a lace at the top of the bag where holes wouldn't matter so much. I think both of the bags turned out nicely.

The concept behind these bag is that you make a big rectangle and then drastically decrease all 4 of the sides so the rectangle gathers into a pouch. Here is a pattern of how I  made the purple bag (more or less.) I hope it makes sense.

Crocheted Purse  (single crocheted pattern)

Materials: 7oz worsted weight yarn, 1-2 oz second color of yarn G sized hook

Special Stitch: *sc2tg - insert hook into stitch, yo and draw through, insert hook in next stitch, yo and draw through (3 loops on hook) yo and draw through all 3 loops.

Row 1 Chain 76, sc in second chain from hook and in each chain across. Turn. 75 stitches, Right side

Rows 2-4 Chain 3  (counts as 1 DC), [Chain 1, skip next sc, DC in next sc] across.Turn.

Row 5  Sc in each DC and in each chain space across. Turn

Rows 6-80 Chain 1, sc in each stitch across.

Rows 81-84 Repeat rows 2-5. Fasten off

Edging (top and bottom of rectangle_

[With right side facing attach second color to 1st stitch of last row with a slip stitch. Ch 1. Sc in first stitch, sc2tg across. Turn. (38 stitches)

Ch 1,  sc2tg across. Turn. (19 stitches)

Ch 1, sc in each stitch across. Fasten off] Repeat on opposite end of rectangle (row 1.)

Edging (sides of rectangle)

Work in continuous rounds.

Round 1 with right side facing attach second color yarn to the top corner of the left side of the rectangle and work 84sc across the side of the rectangle. Chain 50 attach to bottom corner of the right side of rectangle and work 84sc across side of rectangle. Chain 50.

Round 2 Attach to first sc on left side. sc2tg across left side (42stitches). Work 50 sc in chain space. Sc2tg across right side. work 50sc in chain space.

Round 3 Sc2tg across left side (21 stitches), sc in next 50 sc, sc2tg across right side, sc in next 50 sc.

Round 4 Sc in each stitch (142 stitches)
