Pear Honey

I got 20 lbs of pears at about 50 cents a pound. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with that many pears. I don't often eat pears and I certainly wasnt' going to just can the pears in syrup.  I decided I would make pear butter, because I'm running out of peach butter. I also figured I could make a little bit of baby food with it. Now, I don't need any where near 20 lbs of pear butter so I still wanted to find something else to do. I heard about pear honey a few weeks back and thought I could try that. What is pear honey? Well, it doesn't actually have any honey in it. It's just sugar and pear and a little pineapple cooked down to a honey like consistency. It's pretty tasty stuff.

Pear Honey

  • 8 Cups Pear (3-4 pounds) /pureed
  • 8 Cups Sugar
  • 1 20 oz can crushed pineapple
Mix all ingredients together in a large stock pot. Bring to a boil reduce heat and simmer until mixture thickens into a honey like constancy (about an hour, there will still be pineapple chunks.) Ladle mixture into hot jars leaving 1/4 inch head space. Process in boiling water canner 10 minutes*. Yield: 10-12 half pints.

I'm sorry, but I've turned word verification on again. I hate trying to decipher the words just as much as anyone, but I'm getting way too much spam. I tried doing comment moderation as people suggested but the number or spam comments I had to sift through was ridiculous. I appreciate your comments and didn't want them to get lost among the spam. Hopefully, I can reduce the amount of spam and turn the word verification off soon.
